Artwork Detail

Burn time
Burn Time, by Michael Browne came into the Wallace Arts Trust Collection in 2013 when The Rutherford Trust gifted its Collection to the Wallace Arts Trust. Since its founding in 1988, The Rutherford Trust has assembled a diverse Collection comprised of 140 works of contemporary New Zealand art with a mission to “encourage and enhance New Zealand’s cultural life and heritage”. Since the incorporation of The Rutherford Trust Collection into the Wallace Arts Trust Collection, the Trust has continued to showcase works with a view to promote a broader awareness of the Rutherford Trust and its place in our recent cultural and corporate history.

This work is the only example by Browne held in the Wallace Arts Trust Collection. Browne, who trained at the Chelsea School of Art and emigrated to New Zealand in 1933, utilises sensory experience and memory as a basis for his abstract works.
